What is CPM ?.
A CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) machine is a device that passively moves a patient's joints or extremities through a predetermined range of motion. It can be programmed for range of motion (flexion and extension) speed, pause, length of treatment, and other variables. CPM therapy benefits patients by facilitating earlier motion and earlier return to normal function. This usually relates to shorter hospital stays and shorter rehabilitative therapy. These patients also have less pain, edema, and reduction of scarring/adhesion formation. ISurPly provides CPM equipment for the knee, hand, ankle, shoulder, elbow, and wrist.

When and for how long do I use my CPM device if prescribed by my physician?
Typically, you begin use of your CPM device the day after surgery. Use the CPM device 3-4 times a day for one hour sessions or as prescribed by your surgeon. Increase your range of motion in a pain free arc as prescribed. If you reach your target range of motion within the first or second week it is important to continue use of the device in order to maintain motion. You may be asked to use your CPM device before or after other exercises to reduce edema, inflammation and/or pain. iSurply will fit and educate you on the use of this device according to your surgeon’s prescription.

Why choose CPM?
CPM therapy is a technologically advanced way of treating yourself post surgical areas of involvement. This is an imperative form of rehabilitation in conjunction with physical therapy as warranted by your condition and advised by your surgeon. Continuous Passive Motion devices are available for both upper and lower extremities and your physician will prescribe how the device is to be used in regard to rate of speed of motion, duration of use of the equipment and the rate of increase in degrees of motion, commonly referred to as 'Flexion' and 'Extension' in cases of the knee joint.

When and for how long do I use Cold-Compression if prescribed by my physician?
You begin use of Cold-Compression therapy as soon as possible following your surgical procedure to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling. Typically, you will use Cold- Compression more frequently the first week and taper off up to 2-8 weeks following your procedure. The device is typically used 3-6 times (or more) a day for 30 minute sessions or as prescribed by your surgeon. You may be asked to use cold and/or compression therapy after your physical therapy visit or after your home exercises.
